Mental Health Challenges

In the quiet hours of caregiving, when exhaustion sets in and worries loom, caregivers may feel like they’re walking a lonely path. For those caring for loved ones with conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, Down syndrome, or other mental health challenges, the journey is often marked by emotional and physical strain, and an endless well of compassion.

Caregivers provide essential, loving support that sustains their loved ones’ dignity and well-being, but it is often at the expense of their own health, finances, and even mental stability.

In Singapore, the numbers are staggering. There are approximately 82,000 individuals living with dementia today, a figure projected to exceed 100,000 by 2030 as the population ages.

This means tens of thousands of family members and close friends are now stepping into caregiving roles, often unprepared, yet wholly dedicated. Caregivers of people with Down syndrome, who often experience lifelong developmental and intellectual challenges, also face demanding, complex roles that require continuous support.

While caregiving is a profound act of love, it can also be an isolating experience. Many caregivers report feeling overwhelmed, unseen, and without adequate resources to meet the ongoing needs of their loved ones.

Caregiver Support Hub’s mission is to ensure that no caregiver is left alone or unsupported on this journey. Through community, resources, and respite services, we are empower caregivers with the support they need to provide compassionate care while caring for their own well-being. We invite you to join us in this mission.

Compassion in Action

Our vision is simple but profound: to create a world where caregivers feel valued, equipped, and never alone. We believe in the strength of community, the importance of respite, and the power of practical support to make a real difference.

To make this vision a reality, we offer a variety of programs tailored to meet the unique needs of caregivers:

  1. Respite Care Services: Recognising the relentless demands on caregivers, we provide temporary relief options, including day care services and short-term residential care for their loved ones. This allows caregivers to rest and recharge, knowing their loved ones are in a safe and caring environment.
  2. Emotional Support and Counseling: Caregivers carry an emotional weight that can be isolating and overwhelming. Through one-on-one counseling and peer support groups, we offer caregivers a space to process their feelings, connect with others in similar situations, and find solace and understanding.
  3. Education and Training: Caring for someone with dementia or developmental challenges requires specialized skills. Our workshops equip caregivers with essential knowledge and practical skills, covering topics such as dementia care, managing behavioral issues, and navigating the complex healthcare system.
  4. Financial Aid Assistance: Many caregivers face financial burdens due to medical expenses and reduced income. We offer guidance in accessing financial assistance schemes and grants, including the Home Caregiving Grant and Pioneer Generation Package. We work with families to ensure they have the financial support they need to continue their caregiving journey.
  5. Advocacy and Awareness: We believe that caregivers deserve recognition and support from society at large. Through public advocacy, we strive to raise awareness of caregivers’ needs and challenges, fostering greater empathy and policy support for caregiving families.
